The First Presbyterian High School Girls team has a team Scripture verse - "In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven." Matthew 5:16
Recently they had an opportunity to extend their 'shine' beyond the basketball court as they spent an evening visiting the Prodigals Community, a Christ-centered long-term substance abuse recovery program located at 1024 Waughtown Street in Winston-Salem, NC.
Upon their arrival, the team was greeted by staff members Sally Dunlap and Molly Bolton, both alumni of the First Presbyterian High School Girls team. Sally took the team on a tour and provided them with an overview of the program. The team then served dinner, a meal which they had planned and prepared with great care. According to Dave Meyer, one of the coaches, "The conversations were rich and our team was stretched to see life from a different perspective." After dinner the team attended the nightly worship service with the Prodigals residents and saw God at work.
In addition to the team Scripture verse from Matthew 5:16, these girls and their coaches have also been focused on a verse from 1 Thessalonians 2:8 which says, "Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well." This was a night when a Hoops4Him basketball team did just that. They shared their lives and the gospel with a servant's heart.
"It was a great experience." said Coach Tom Dunlap. "Confirmation that Hoops4Him is about a lot more than basketball!"
